2008 Annual Meeting - All Welcome - March 11, 6:30 p.m., Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1634 - 19th Ave., Seattle It’s not every day a person can talk religion and politics in polite company and get away with it! We’re inviting you to do just that, however, at our annual Church Council Assembly on March 11, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 1634 – 19th Ave. in Seattle. To RSVP call 206-525-1213. What’s an Assembly? It’s the meeting at which all clergy and 2 lay members of each of the Council’s member congregations sit as delegates to make important decisions about our local ecumenical work. After a short business meeting, the program will feature a fascinating discussion on religion and politics, led by Dr. David Domke of the University of Washington School of Communications whose recent book, The God Strategy: How Religion Became a Political Weapon in America, presents an interesting context for our current political conversation. Dr. Domke studied thousands of public speeches by U.S. presidents from FDR to George W. Bush and made some very intriguing discoveries. Following his lecture we’ll have a large group discussion on what it means and how we feel about it as local religious leaders. Please plan to attend! RSVP to Brianna Thomas by phone, 206-525-1213 x 0, or by e-mail bthomas@thechurchcouncil.org. The event is $18 pre-paid, or $20 at the door, and includes dinner. Payment can be made using cash, check, or credit card. Doors open at 6 p.m. We hope you’ll join us for what will be a fabulous program (and an important meeting). |
