Church Council Celebrates Governor Gregoire Signing February 20, 2007

The Church Council of Greater Seattle celebrates with Hate Free Zone Washington the signing of an Executive Order by Governor Christine Gregoire creating a Statewide Policy Council on immigrant integration.  The signing, with numerous religious and community leaders in attendance, took place at St. James Cathedral on Wednesday, February 20.  The council will be made up of diverse representatives to help shape a plan to recommend to the Governor that will expedite the naturalization of up to 135,000 legal permanent residents in the State of Washington.  With the 10th largest immigrant population in the country in the most trade dependent state, immigrants who contribute greatly to our state and national economy will now have a chance to make permanent the significant role they play in making this country one of economic opportunity, innovation and strong family and cultural heritage.
