Drug Policy Reform Current drug policies have created a lucrative black market for illicit drugs, filled our prisons and jails, and left countless individuals permanently scarred from the effects of drug abuse. The Church Council is part of a broad-based coalition that is advocating for a fresh look at our statewide drug policies that seeks a better way to deal with our drug epidemic. In addition to the Church Council, the coalition includes: *King County Medical Society*Loren Miller Bar Association *Municipal League of King County *Physicians for Social Responsibility of Washington *Seattle League of Women Voters *Washington Academy of Family Physicians *Washington Osteopathic Medical Association *Washington Society of Addiction Medicine *Washington State Bar Association *Washington State Medical Association, *Washington State Pharmacy Association *Washington State Psychiatric Association *Washington State Psychological Association *Washington State Public Health Association Early in 2005, the coalition released an important report: "Effective Drug Control: Toward a New Legal Framework." Read the report here. The Council will continue to advocate for a new approach to drug policy, in the hopes that our communities will be freed from the long term effects of substance abuse and chemical dependency. |
