Two beautiful and deeply spiritual Services of Hope were held on Tuesday night for all affected by the cruel and tragic shootings in White Center last Saturday. The services were led by Council Director, the Rev. Sandy Brown, and clergy from four White Center-area churches.

Service of Hope is a program begun by the Church Council in late 2004 to remember victims of homicides through King County.  The Tuesday evening services were held at the White Center precinct office, where Deputy Steve Cox was honored, and then at the site of the shootings, where victim Dominique McCray was remembered and prayers were offered for the perpetrator, Raymond Porter.

The Church Council is deeply grateful for the life and service of Deputy Porter, and was honored to lead a service in memory of his life of duty and achievement.  We grieve, along with the family and community, at the loss of a dedicated and effective husband, father, friend, and public servant.

Services of Hope create wholeness and renewal in the face of violence.

Helping those of us who are going through tough times.

Bringing people together to work for social justice.
