A room with nothing in it can be as cold as the streets.

That’s why the Church Council works through The Sharehouse to ensure that people coming out of homelessness have the household furnishings they need to begin to rebuild their lives.

The Sharehouse started in 1989 when King County agencies helping the homeless recognized they needed a central location where they could find good used furniture and household items to help their clients get settled in transitional housing. The Church Council stepped forward and created this innovative program that now works with over 50 housing agencies.

The Sharehouse, which is located in the Georgetown area of South Seattle, collects furniture and goods from individual donors, corporate surplus and other sources, and stores it in a warehouse organized much like a department store.

Agencies make appointments and bring their clients to select items they need. Everything is free. Annually, almost 2000 people receive help through The Sharehouse.

The Sharehouse is a great way to recycle quality used goods, directing them away from landfills and into the homes of people who can really use them. If you would like to become a part of this common-sense effort, contact The Sharehouse.

You can:
