Sound Youth builds partnerships with schools, community organizations, and faith-based organizations to holistically support local youth and their families. Our team of AmeriCorps and VISTA volunteers tutor in schools and neighborhood centers, organize parent events, recruit volunteers, develop after-school programs and hold community events that support and celebrate kids. We also gather resources in the community, calling on churches, businesses and neighborhood leaders to create supportive environments for all our children. Sound Youth operates at numerous sites throughout the greater Seattle area, from Rainier Valley to Shoreline. Activities vary from neighborhood to neighborhood, but our overall objectives remain the same: improve academic achievement; raise parental involvement; and strengthen community support for children, teens, and their families. We strive to reach these objectives as part of a larger commitment to social justice and community empowerment. Sound Youth is a program of the Church Council, operating in partnership with the Sisters of Notre Dame. Sound Youth is funded with federal government grants and with the support of generous community members. There are many ways to get involved in Sound Youth’s rewarding work:
